Penis Envy Uncut mushrooms are not your typical variety. The uncut part is derived from the lack of a foreskin-like gelatinous membrane separating the cap and the stem which is present on almost all other cubensis strains. The distinct appearance, features a dense, bulbous, and often misshapen cap.
Penis Envy strains are known for their potency, i.e. high levels of psilocybin. The original Penis Envy mushroom came to promenance in the 80's when it was given its current name - previously being sold as Amazonian. The first image of the Penis Envy was pictured on the front cover of the impossible-to-find book Cubensis Acquarium Gardening by Richard Gutierrez published in 1976. It's believed Terrence McKenna had collected samples from the Amazon, Gutierrez got hold of some of these samples through a third party, began the journey and the evolution of Penis Envy transpired having to regularly regenerate the lineage. This cycle of regeneration lasted for approximately 20 years. For those that remember it, it was later sold under the name Willy's Rocket Dicks. Sadly, we've pretty much lost all trace of this line of genetics so Penis Envy today is a completely new entity.
Penis Envy strains do not sporulate in large quantities due to, effectively, bad genetics. It's these bad genetics that leads to more aborts making them stronger but physically they're weaker which is why we see their caps often appear to be toppling over.
Penis Envy Uncut spores, although few, are a dark purplish brown colour and appear subellipsoid under the microscope. One for the advanced microscopist.
