Overview

The lineage that these PEU spores were taken from have a mix of canonical and light pigmentation and thus the most current batch has more of the canonical P. cubensis presentation.

This lineage is more of a PEU-Revert in phenotype. It is unstable will give variable results under the microscope. Great for spore hunters looking for varied samples. This strain tends to revert to a more P. cubensis phenotype compared to the original PEU phenotype. It was originally sold as a PEU revert but was changed in 2024 to keep it inline with its curator. If you are looking for a more stable variety of Penis Envy then we suggest taking a look at the Penis Envy Plus swabs which will provide more consistent results.

Penis Envy strains are known for their potency, i.e. high levels of psilocybin. The original Penis Envy mushroom came to prominence in the 80's when it was given its current name - previously being sold as Amazonian. The first image of the Penis Envy was pictured on the front cover of the (impossible-to-find) book Cubensis Acquarium Gardening by Richard Gutierrez published in 1976. It's believed Terrence McKenna had collected samples from the Amazon, Gutierrez got hold of some of these samples through a third party, began the journey and the evolution of Penis Envy transpired having to regularly regenerate the lineage. This cycle of regeneration lasted for approximately 20 years. For those that remember it, it was later sold under the name Willy's Rocket Dicks. Sadly, we've pretty much lost all trace of this line of genetics so Penis Envy today is a completely new entity.

How we prepare spores

We use our years of experience to ensure that whatever format you prefer — you get your spores in tip-top condition.

Syringe. Under a laminar flow hood using strict aseptic technique, spores are carefully scraped from lab grade prints directly into sterile distilled water. We draw them up fresh for every order (no being stored in bulk).

Swab. Certain genetics (like Penis Envy) either release a small amount of spores or none at all so collecting them becomes more difficult for a print — this is where swabs are useful. They are made by wiping a sterile cotton swab across the gills on the underside of a mature mushroom's cap. Don’t worry — this is done in a suitably legal country!

Using your spores

  • For best results use immediately.
  • Let the syringe come to room temperature if it's been refrigerated, then gently shake it to re-suspend the spores evenly.
  • Wipe down your workspace with an alcohol wipe to keep things sterile, and note that the needle should be re-sterilised (e.g. with a flame or alcohol wipe) between each slide to avoid cross-contamination.
  • Don't forget to wait 10 seconds for the needle to cool.

Best for Storage

  • If not using right away — store somewhere cool and dark, ideally 4-8°C, away from direct sunlight and heat sources - in the fridge is perfect.
  • Keep sealed when not in use.
  • Avoid freezing and direct sunlight.
  • Avoid repeated temperature changes.
  • We recommend to use them within 6 months but it's not uncommon for them to last years.
