Overview

A clean, simplified blend that delivers reliable results for a wide range of species. Safari Wild is ideal for those looking for something a little more nutrient rich than straight CVG. Our Expert's Opinion

Tony, our resident mycologist, has this to say.

Pros

  • Excellent Air Exchange - Straw provides a loose, fibrous structure that encourages gas exchange and mycelial respiration.
  • Balanced Nutrition - Combines the microbial benefits of manure with lignin/cellulose from straw — a proven combo for many dung-loving species.
  • Higher Yields & More Flushes - Lignin content supports long-term substrate stability and extended flushes.
  • Quick Activating, Healthy Nutrients - The combination of manure & straw rapidly delivers sustained nutrition to mycelium.

Cons

  • Increased Contamination Risk - Straw doesn't hold moisture very well (see tips) increasing contam risk.

Tips

  • Overcome Potential Water Retention Issues - As straw retains moisture poorly ensure that it is kept below the surface and is evenly distributed throughout your sub.
  • May need a Casing - Used with a variety of strains, it may be necessary to use a casing so research if you are unsure.

FAQs

Does this substrate need to be sterilised or pasteurised before use?

This substrate has already been pasteurised — so no — you're good to go!

Do I need to add any water?

No — this substrate is already hydrated to field capacity and is ready to use.

Does it come with instructions?

Yes — you'll receive full step-by-step instructions so that you know exactly what do and when.

Introducing Bulk Substrate

Once your grain is fully colonised (and only then!), it’s time to put your bulk substrate to work. Simply break up the colonised grain and mix it thoroughly through the substrate, making sure it is distributed evenly throughout.

We suggest a ratio of 2:1 (for beginners) or 3:1 — bulk substrate to spawn. Once mixed, leave it to colonise the substrate and let nature do what it does best.

And yes, you could technically use the substrate for something else. Fill a planter. Improve your compost. Make a very elaborate mud pie.

But frankly, it was made for mushrooms. So probs best to give it to the mycelium.

Best for Storage

  • For best results use immediately
  • If not using right away — store somewhere cool and dark, ideally 13–21°C, standing upright without heavy items stacked on top.
  • Keep in original sealed bag to protect the internal microflora balance.
  • Do NOT freeze
  • Best used within 7 to 14 days — before dormant spores or bacteria wake up.

Payment

We currently only accept bank transfer — full details are provided upon checkout.

Why don't we accept card payments? Unfortunately despite progress, the industry is still heavily stigmatised (from banks) which means that even payment gateways such as PayPal don't provide a service for any spore provider based in the UK (also the reason that you cannot buy these spores on the high street).

We encourage you to read our customer reviews to see the experiences others have had with us.
