What's in the Box

  • A luer lock syringe (either 3ml or 10ml — according to your selection) packed full of viable undefined spores
  • A sterile sealed syringe cap
  • A sterile sealed syringe needle
  • A sterile wipe

Overview

There remains very little information on the origins of the Taman Negara mushroom although it's widely believed that they are a Malaysian strain of Psilocybe Cubensis. It has distinctive reddish-brown caps with spots that appear highly unusual. The remarkable appearance of Taman Negara caps and its dependable genetic makeup mean it's been known to grow in many environments.

The spores are dark purple and subellipsoid in shape and is a good choice for a beginner microscopist.

How we prepare spores

We use our years of experience to ensure that whatever format you prefer — you get your spores in tip-top condition.

Syringe. Under a laminar flow hood using strict aseptic technique, spores are carefully scraped from lab grade prints directly into sterile distilled water. We draw them up fresh for every order (no being stored in bulk).

Swab. Certain genetics (like Penis Envy) either release a small amount of spores or none at all so collecting them becomes more difficult for a print — this is where swabs are useful. They are made by wiping a sterile cotton swab across the gills on the underside of a mature mushroom's cap. Don’t worry — this is done in a suitably legal country!

FAQs

Are Taman Negara spores legal?

Yes, it is legal to possess and sell Taman Negara spores in the UK, but it is illegal to grow or consume them. Those outside the UK should be familiar with the legal status of magic mushroom spores for their jurisdiction - according to the intended purpose. Microscopy is a rapidly growing activity.

How do I choose a strain to study?

It really depends on what you're looking for. Consider the characteristics you're most interested in, such as shape, size, colour or the history and genetics of a particular strain. If you're unsure, our strain descriptions provide more information to help you compare your options. Read more on choosing mushroom spores for microscopy

Using your spores

  • For best results use immediately.
  • Let the syringe come to room temperature if it's been refrigerated, then gently shake it to re-suspend the spores evenly.
  • Wipe down your workspace with an alcohol wipe to keep things sterile, and note that the needle should be re-sterilised (e.g. with a flame or alcohol wipe) between each slide to avoid cross-contamination.
  • Don't forget to wait 10 seconds for the needle to cool.

Best for Storage

  • If not using right away — store somewhere cool and dark, ideally 4-8°C, away from direct sunlight and heat sources - in the fridge is perfect.
  • Keep sealed when not in use.
  • Avoid freezing and direct sunlight.
  • Avoid repeated temperature changes.
  • We recommend to use them within 6 months but it's not uncommon for them to last years.
