Psilocybe Ochraceocentrata is a remarkable and exotic species, newly recognised for its distinct genetic lineage. Originating from the Natal region of Africa, this species was first described in 1995 and has been confirmed through genetic sequencing as a separate species from Psilocybe Cubensis, despite their close relationship. It was previously referred to as Psilocybe Natalensis and has also been known as the Natalensis Super Strain. This species has been officially renamed Psilocybe Ochraceocentrata, now designated as Ps. ochraceocentrata (aff. Psilocybe Natalensis) in taxonomic terms.
This species is known for its prolific fruiting potential, often producing multiple flushes with robust yields. Its mycelium is highly aggressive, allowing for rapid colonization and strong resistance to contamination. Unlike Psilocybe Cubensis, Ps. Ochraceocentrata prefers high fresh air exchange conditions during substrate colonisation, which contributes to its unique growth characteristics.
Some studies and anecdotal reports suggest that this species may possess anti-inflammatory properties. While it shares morphological similarities with Ps. Cubensis, its distinct characteristics make it a fascinating species for careful study under the microscope.
