Overview

Psilocybe Ochraceocentrata is a remarkable exotic species, newly recognised for its distinct genetic lineage. Originating from the Natal region of Africa, this species was first described in 1995 and has been confirmed through genetic sequencing as a separate species from Psilocybe Cubensis, despite their close relationship. It was previously referred to as Psilocybe Natalensis and has also been known as the Natalensis Super Strain. This species has been officially renamed Psilocybe Ochraceocentrata, now designated as Ps. ochraceocentrata (aff. Psilocybe Natalensis) in taxonomic terms.

This species is known for its prolific fruiting potential, often producing multiple flushes with robust yields. Its mycelium is highly aggressive, allowing for rapid colonisation and strong resistance to contamination. Unlike Psilocybe Cubensis, Ps. Ochraceocentrata prefers high fresh air exchange conditions during substrate colonisation, which contributes to its unique growth characteristics.

Some studies and anecdotal reports suggest that this species may possess anti-inflammatory properties. While it shares morphological similarities with Ps. Cubensis, its distinct characteristics make it a fascinating species for careful study under the microscope.

How we prepare spores

We use our years of experience to ensure that whatever format you prefer — you get your spores in tip-top condition.

Syringe. Under a laminar flow hood using strict aseptic technique, spores are carefully scraped from lab grade prints directly into sterile distilled water. We draw them up fresh for every order (no being stored in bulk).

Swab. Certain genetics (like Penis Envy) either release a small amount of spores or none at all so collecting them becomes more difficult for a print — this is where swabs are useful. They are made by wiping a sterile cotton swab across the gills on the underside of a mature mushroom's cap. Don’t worry — this is done in a suitably legal country!

Using your spores

  • For best results use immediately.
  • Let the syringe come to room temperature if it's been refrigerated, then gently shake it to re-suspend the spores evenly.
  • Wipe down your workspace with an alcohol wipe to keep things sterile, and note that the needle should be re-sterilised (e.g. with a flame or alcohol wipe) between each slide to avoid cross-contamination.
  • Don't forget to wait 10 seconds for the needle to cool.

Best for Storage

  • If not using right away — store somewhere cool and dark, ideally 4-8°C, away from direct sunlight and heat sources - in the fridge is perfect.
  • Keep sealed when not in use.
  • Avoid freezing and direct sunlight.
  • Avoid repeated temperature changes.
  • We recommend to use them within 6 months but it's not uncommon for them to last years.
