Key Features

  • Provides rich nutrients needed for strong mushroom growth.
  • Pasteurised to kill competing microorganisms and bacteria.
  • Hydrated to field capacity to minimise contamination-risk whilst maximising flushes.

What's in the Box

  • A bag of Horse Manure for Bulk Substrate (depending on your selected size)
  • 2 x Sterile Wipes
  • Online step-by-step instructions

Overview

This is a blend of locally sourced horse manure and vermiculite, ready to use at field capacity (fully hydrated). This mix has been carefully pasteurised to ensure the most serious pathogens are eliminated whilst retaining many of its nutrients with the added benefit of vermiculite for added water retention and airation.

This mix can be added for extra nutrient composition to existing bulk substrates like Coir or CVG or can be used on its own. A downside to using a higher nutrient based substrate is the greater risk of contamination which increases over multiple flushes. That said it's ofter quicker to colonise and produces excellent results.

Our Expert's Opinion

Tony, our resident mycologist, has this to say.

Pros

  • Versatility - Can be used on its own when growing coprophilous mushrooms (those that prefer substrates containing miroorganisms that break down organic matter), as well as a beneficial supplement to other substrates.
  • Faster Colonisation - Due to a balanced nutrient content.
  • Pasteurised - Eliminating the most serious pathogens to minimise their threat of contamination.

Cons

  • Increased Contamination Risk - Rich nutrient levels provide foods for contagions to consume, raising the possibility of contamination in comparison with other more nutrient-deficient substrates.

Tips

  • More Flushes - Mixing the manure with a low nutrient substrate will increase the longevity of your grow.

FAQs

How do I use this item?

This can be used on its own with coprophilous mushrooms or as an additive to a mushroom substrate (depending on your mushroom species) for experienced growers.

Does this substrate need to be sterilised or pasteurised before use?

This substrate has already been pasteurised — so no — you're good to go!

Do I need to add any water?

No — this substrate is already hydrated to field capacity and is ready to use.

Does it come with instructions?

Yes — you'll receive full step-by-step instructions so that you know exactly what do and when.

Adding to Bulk Substrate

Mix it with a suitable bulk substrate according to the requirements of your chosen species

And yes, horse manure has plenty of other uses. Feed the garden. Improve the soil. Give your roses something to brag about.

But if you're here for mushrooms, let the fungi have it.

Best for Storage

  • For best results use immediately
  • If not using right away — store somewhere cool and dark, ideally 13–21°C, standing upright without heavy items stacked on top.
  • Keep in original sealed bag to protect the internal microflora balance.
  • Do NOT freeze
  • Best used within 7 to 14 days — before dormant spores or bacteria wake up.

Payment

We currently only accept bank transfer — full details are provided upon checkout.

Why don't we accept card payments? Unfortunately despite progress, the industry is still heavily stigmatised (from banks) which means that even payment gateways such as PayPal don't provide a service for any spore provider based in the UK (also the reason that you cannot buy these spores on the high street).
