Overview

To successfully grow mushrooms in your bag or tubs, we recommend a minimum 3:1 ratio of CVG substrate to Rye Grain Spawn. This combination ensures that once fully colonised, the grain spawn will provide all the necessary nutrients, while the substrate effectively retains the moisture required for fruiting.

Our grain spawn is fully hydrated and nutrient-rich, and the coco coir and vermiculite are prepared to field capacity. Both products are sterilised in a vertical steam pressure autoclave for 3 hours at 15 PSI. The ratio of spawn to bulk can be increased if the mushroom is prone to blobbing. This hassle-free recipe offers a ready-made solution for your mushroom growing needs.

How do I use this item?

Inject your mushroom spore syringe into the grain via your self-healing port and let the mycelium do its thing. Once the magical mycelium has colonised it and it is all white, then you can mix it in with the substrate (without opening the bag to ensure minimum contamination risk).

Does this substrate need to be sterilised or pasteurised before use?

This substrate has already been sterilised at 15 PSI for 3 hours — so no — you're good to go!

Do I need to add any water?

No — this substrate is already hydrated to field capacity and is ready to use.

Does it come with instructions?

Yes — you'll receive full step-by-step instructions so that you know exactly what do and when.

Inoculating your Grain

Using sterile practice, inject your mushroom spore syringe through the self-healing port and let the magical mycelium do its thing. Once fully colonised, mix the grain with your bulk substrate

Of course, this all assumes you actually want to grow mushrooms. You could also fill a balloon with grain and make an eco-friendly stress ball, half-fill a container and make homemade maracas, or hell, feed it to the birds.

But whatever you do, for the love of God – do not use your Rye Grain & Coir Bundle to be growing magic mushrooms!!

Best for Storage

  • For best results use immediately
  • If not using right away — store somewhere cool and dark, ideally 13–21°C, standing upright without heavy items stacked on top.
  • Keep in original sealed bag to maintain sterility while letting it breathe.
  • Do NOT freeze
  • Correctly stored, this item will last upto 3 months. Check periodically for moisture loss.
