Product Description

This is a blend of locally sourced horse manure and vermiculite, ready to use at field capacity (fully hydrated). This mix has been carefully pasteurised to ensure the most serious pathogens are eliminated whilst retaining many of its nutrients with the added benefit of vermiculite for added water retention and airation.

This mix can be added for extra nutrient composition to existing bulk substrates like Coir or CVG or can be used on its own. A downside to using a higher nutrient based substrate is the greater risk of contamination which increases over multiple flushes. That said it's ofter quicker to colonise and produces excellent results.

Our Expert's Opinion NEW

Tony, our resident mycologist, has this to say.

Pros
  • Versatility - Can be used on its own when growing coprophilous mushrooms (those that prefer substrates containing miroorganisms that break down organic matter), as well as a beneficial supplement to other substrates.
  • Faster Colonisation - Due to a balanced nutrient content.
  • Pasteurised - Eliminating the most serious pathogens to minimise their threat of contamination.
Cons
  • Increased Contamination Risk - Rich nutrient levels provide foods for contagions to consume, raising the possibility of contamination in comparison with other more nutrient-deficient substrates.
Tips
  • More Flushes - Mixing the manure with a low nutrient substrate will increase the longevity of your grow.

Product FAQs

How do I use this item?
This can be used on its own with coprophilous mushrooms or as an additive to a mushroom substrate (depending on your mushroom species) for experienced growers.
Do I need to add any water?
No - this substrate is already hydrated to field capacity. Field capacity relates to the relative moisture content of the soil required for the mushrooms fruiting bodies to harvest.
