Overview

Panaeolus Cyanescens British Virgin Isles have a striking appearance and have been growing in the wild for thousands of years. The name Panaeolus comes from the Greek word "panaios" meaning "variegated" referring to the distinctive spotted or mottled gills found in this genus. The species name Cyanescens comes from the Latin word "cyaneus" meaning "blue" which references the characteristic blue bruising of the mushroom, a visible sign of the psilocybin content.

The British Virgin Isles strain has also been referred to as Blue Meanies not to be confused with the Cubensis variety of the same name. British Virgin Isles mushrooms themselves exhibit tall, thin white stems and brilliant white bell shaped caps. The spores are ellipsoidal and jet black in colour. British Virgin Isles spores are an exhilarating study under the microscope for those wanting to further their knowledge and experience.

How we prepare spores

We use our years of experience to ensure that whatever format you prefer — you get your spores in tip-top condition.

Syringe. Under a laminar flow hood using strict aseptic technique, spores are carefully scraped from lab grade prints directly into sterile distilled water. We draw them up fresh for every order (no being stored in bulk).

Swab. Certain genetics (like Penis Envy) either release a small amount of spores or none at all so collecting them becomes more difficult for a print — this is where swabs are useful. They are made by wiping a sterile cotton swab across the gills on the underside of a mature mushroom's cap. Don’t worry — this is done in a suitably legal country!

Using your spores

  • For best results use immediately.
  • Let the syringe come to room temperature if it's been refrigerated, then gently shake it to re-suspend the spores evenly.
  • Wipe down your workspace with an alcohol wipe to keep things sterile, and note that the needle should be re-sterilised (e.g. with a flame or alcohol wipe) between each slide to avoid cross-contamination.
  • Don't forget to wait 10 seconds for the needle to cool.

Best for Storage

  • If not using right away — store somewhere cool and dark, ideally 4-8°C, away from direct sunlight and heat sources - in the fridge is perfect.
  • Keep sealed when not in use.
  • Avoid freezing and direct sunlight.
  • Avoid repeated temperature changes.
  • We recommend to use them within 6 months but it's not uncommon for them to last years.
